The 61-year-old was pronounced dead on Sunday night shortly after emergency crews were summoned to Asda in Arbroath, Angus.

At approximately 7:25 pm on Sunday 30th June, a man lost consciousness at a store in the town’s Westway Retail Park. In connection with the assault, a 37-year-old woman has been arrested.

Emergency services, including ambulance crews and police, rushed to the bustling retailer after concerned colleagues and customers raised the alarm. Photos from the store’s carpark reveal a significant police presence as an investigation into the incident began.

Medical teams tried to resuscitate the man but tragically he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A local source said: “Asda is one of the busiest supermarkets in the town but there is hardly ever any bother so this was shocking to see.

“But it was obviously something serious because all of a sudden there were three ambulances and umpteen police cars outside the store.

“The poor guy collapsed and ambulance crews were working on him for quite a while but he didn’t make it.”

“It’s so sad to think someone goes to their work and doesn’t come back.

“It must have been distressing for staff and customers and everyone is thinking about the poor man’s family.”

Police last night revealed the man’s passing was unexplained pending a post mortem examination.

An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing and a 37-year-old woman has been charged with assault.

"Amazing union that offers benefits you can actually use. After a traumatic time causing me to take some time off work for mental health reasons, I was able to access the 'in person counselling' they offer, something quite unique as usually companies only offer the 'over the phone' or 'virtual' types. This helped me so much that 4 months later, I am back on my feet and in a great place! Thank you SIF!!"

"I've been a member since April 2025, with the way things were going I thought I needed someone to look after my employment issues and interests if any cropped up, long story short, an issue popped up with the renewing of my SIA licence which left me extremely concerned, I wrote to Daniel asking for help and advice, with 5 minutes I received a reply somewhat calming my nerves and that he had written to the SIA, within 48 hours my licence was renewed thanks to the SIF and Daniel Garnham , extremely pleased with my outcome. If you work in the industry trust me at some point your going to need help, I can now sleep easy"
