A message from SIF General Secretary, Daniel Garnham.
I’m incredibly proud of the work my team are doing at the Security Industry Federation Trade Union in supporting the UK’s security professionals during workplace disputes and TUPE and redundancy processes.
To have saved 26 jobs so far in 2026 is amazing. That’s 26 families that can continue to live their current lifestyle without fearing losing their homes, being able to feed their children or having to rely on state welfare.
This is not a case of supporting indefensible actions, it’s supporting those that have made a mistake which has been conflated to much worse, or allegations made with no basis or evidence. These are cases which would have seen workers dismissed previously without the support of the union.
Add over 11,000 people who have signed our petition to make assaulting a security worker a standalone offence and the benefits to being part of the SIF is clear to see.
Employers also benefit from working with us to avoid drawn out processes and constant friction that affects the workplace environment and clients.
My aim is to make the industry a better place and I’m pleased to say that with collaboration from employers and organisations we are seeing the fruits of this.
Security professionals are working in difficult circumstances right now and need our support more than ever. Please consider this when trivial incidents are dressed up as gross misconduct, we are losing good workers to other industries who will pay more for less risk and provide them with a culture of support and development. This is what we should be doing, otherwise we are in a cycle of losing experienced workers every time they ask themselves, “why am I renewing my licence just to be treated like this?”
Let’s continue to collaborate to professionalise and incentivise those that keep us safe!
